IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization)

IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) is applied according to the fertilization of the ovaries using classic IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) or microinjection (ICSI) methods. The frequently preferred IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) method is generally preferred in cases where there are no problems with sperm count and quality, and sperm fertilizes the egg on its own. In the ICSI method, the egg is prepared for injection and sperm cells are placed inside a single egg.

For IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) to be applied, it is necessary to have sexual intercourse for at least 1 year without using birth control methods and not to see pregnancy during this period. This condition is also called infertility. If there is no pregnancy during this period, IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) is applied.

IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) is applied to women up to 45 years of age in whom ovarian functions are found to be adequate through tests performed on the 3rd day of the menstrual cycle. At the same time, the suitability of embryos is also checked through genetic diagnosis method. However, in women over 40 years of age, the likelihood of this method being successful is lower compared to younger women. In women, especially after the age of 35, the decrease in the number and quality of eggs also affects the success rate.

During IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization), although an embryo may develop in some cases, pregnancy does not occur. This situation is usually caused by problems that occur at the stage of embryo attachment to the uterus. The assisted hatching method allows the embryo that has reached a certain size to break free from the membrane surrounding it (zona pellucida) and attach to the endometrial tissues. Holes are opened in the membrane using chemical methods or laser technology so that the embryo can break through this membrane. During this procedure, the embryo is immobilized but no damage is caused to the embryo.

Insemination, also known as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), is the placement of sperm cells into the egg during ovulation or near ovulation in women. Insemination is applied to patients with unexplained infertility and early-stage endometriosis and vaginismus. However, insemination is also suitable in cases where sperm passage through the cervix is blocked and in cases of premature ejaculation or erectile dysfunction problems.

In some cases, the insemination method is preferred before IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) is applied. Especially in infertility, insemination is at the top of suitable treatment methods. For insemination to be applicable, in addition to unexplained infertility in men, one of the fallopian tubes must be open in women and severe endometriosis disease (such as chocolate cysts) must not be present. In men, the sperm count and quality must also not be very low.

In classic IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization), sperm and eggs are placed side by side and fertilization by sperm is awaited. In the microinjection method, also known as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), a sperm cell taken in a glass needle is injected directly into the egg and fertilization is achieved. Microinjection applications are performed when sperm count is insufficient, motility is below normal, and when cells cannot fertilize the egg.

In classic IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization), hormone-containing injection treatment is applied to obtain more eggs and embryos. However, in some women, ovarian capacity is not sufficient to obtain too many eggs. In cases where the number of ovaries is low and the chances of success with hormone injections are low, a medication-free treatment method in which women's menstrual cycles are monitored is preferred. This method, which focuses on egg quality rather than egg quantity, involves either no medication or very low-dose hormones being given to women. The continuation of the procedures is similar to classic IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization); the natural ovulation process is monitored and the egg that reaches an appropriate size is collected with a needle. After fertilization, the embryo is implanted in the uterus.

PRP, also known as egg rejuvenation, is one of the newer methods. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), which means platelet-enriched plasma, is obtained from individuals' own blood and does not contain any additives. Especially in cases where the chances of pregnancy are low due to various reasons, the PRP method is utilized. Platelet-rich plasma is applied to women's ovaries and activates stem cells. Because it is a painful procedure, it is generally performed under anesthesia, where a needle is used to enter through the vagina and PRP Injection is performed on the ovaries. In this way, it is aimed to increase ovarian functions. PRP applications increase the chances of pregnancy in older women with low ovarian reserve and individuals who have entered early menopause.

Sperm is as important as eggs in achieving fertilization and obtaining quality embryos. In this sense, the stages of obtaining sperm are also among the important stages of IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization).

As of 2026 in Turkey, standard IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) (classic IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization)/ICSI) ranges on average between 2500 euros and 4000 euros. To this cost, hormone medications ranging around 750-1250 euros that vary depending on the patient's age and egg reserve, as well as additional laboratory procedures such as PGT (genetic screening) or embryo freezing are generally not included.

In Turkey, it is strictly prohibited by law to perform IVF Treatment (In Vitro Fertilization) using egg, sperm or embryo donation (gift).
