The momentum continued into the first quarter of 2026; in three months, 302,487 patients received treatment and $761.5 million in revenue was generated.
The striking point is not just the number of patients: per capita medical tourism revenue increased approximately 39% compared to the same period of the previous year. In other words, Turkey is now not just cheap, but a center where higher value-added treatments are performed.
Turkey hosts patients from approximately 180 countries. In the same year, the total number of visitors to the country reached 63.9 million and Turkey rose to 4th place in the world ranking of countries receiving the most tourists. Approximately 40% of foreign visitors come to Istanbul; that is, to the city with the most dense health infrastructure.
Visa: Citizens of four countries enter visa-free
Citizens of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands enter Turkey visa-free with public passports. This is one of the most concrete advantages in terms of treatment planning: no consulate appointment, document files or waiting periods. After determining the treatment date, the patient can get their ticket and fly.

The 90-day period is more than sufficient for extended recovery processes. A second visit for follow-up examination can also be planned with the same ease. The 90/180 rule works with the same Schengen logic as a rolling window; if you plan multiple visits within a year, keep track of your total days.
Flights: Istanbul is 3.5 hours from Northern Europe
Istanbul is almost the same distance as flying from Copenhagen to Rome. There is no need for a long and tiring journey for treatment.

Ticket prices
The Northern Europe – Istanbul route is one of Europe's most competitive routes. Round-trip tickets, during low season and when purchased in advance, start in the $175–300 USD range. While prices are higher with scheduled flag carriers, considering the total cost of the treatment package, the flight item usually does not exceed 5–10% of the budget.
Fly in the morning, consult the same day: A flight departing Oslo at 06:05 arrives in Istanbul at 10:55. First consultation the same afternoon, procedure the next day; this is the program most frequently preferred by our patients.
Treatment quality: Accreditation and case volume
The most legitimate question in medical tourism is: does being cheap mean compromising on quality? The answer comes from looking at where the price comes from.
JCI accreditation
Joint Commission International (JCI) is an international organization that independently audits hospitals on patient safety, infection control, medication management, surgical protocols and continuous quality improvement. Currently, there are approximately 38–42 JCI accredited hospitals in Turkey, with most of them concentrated in Istanbul.
JCI accreditation is not a decorative certificate. Hospitals undergo structured inspections and must demonstrate that safety processes are implemented not just on paper, but in daily hospital operations.
Where does the price difference come from?
The same brand titanium implant, the same CAD/CAM ceramic crown, the same surgical protocol; different price. The difference comes from rent, personnel costs, laboratory expenses and the structure of the healthcare system, not from materials or technique. Clinics in Turkey purchase implant systems from Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Osstem from the same distributors as their counterparts in Western Europe.
Case volume
Turkey's silent advantage is the number of cases per surgeon. In Istanbul alone, there are over 400 dental clinics serving international patients. In hair transplantation, bariatric surgery, eye and dental treatments, the annual case volume of Turkish physicians is many times higher than that of a physician performing the same procedure in Northern Europe. In surgery, experience is directly related to outcomes.

Waiting time: A factor that varies by country
- Denmark and the Netherlands are among the countries with the shortest waiting times for elective surgery according to OECD measurements. It varies by country and procedure. EU and EEA citizens may have reimbursement mechanisms for planned cross-border healthcare services, but since Turkey is not an EU member, this coverage is often not applicable.
